Community Garden

Our 13-acre site has ample space to address the lack of fresh food availability in South Victoria, Texas.

Our Goals for the Community Garden

  • Increase access to healthy foods through farmers’ markets, community gardens, and mobile markets.
  • Improve the health and wellbeing of community members by providing access to fresh produce, promoting healthier lifestyles, and fostering community connections.
  • Improve economic opportunities by training volunteers and selling food at farmers’ markets. They can also teach residents useful skills in planning, food production, and business management.

Childcare Initiative

We collaborate with local organizations and schools to provide an additional location for support services in south Victoria, Texas.

  • Expand Access: Collaborate with community organizations to increase the availability of nontraditional childcare options, aiming to raise the percentage of center-based providers offering non-standard hours care
  • Capacity Building: Collaborate with community organizations to train and equip childcare providers to offer high-quality nontraditional care, ensuring that these services meet the specific needs and safety standards required for evening and overnight care.
  • Supportive Networks: Establish partnerships with community organizations to create networks of support for families with nontraditional work schedules, providing resources, information, and connections to reliable nonstandard childcare options.

Carver Center’s healthcare initiative can improve quality of life for the community through health education and screening.
